Clinics
How we verify clinics
The federal and state checks behind “Verified”.
A clinic must be verified before anyone can send it a brief. We check:
| Check | Source | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| NPI | NPPES NPI Registry (CMS) | The NPI exists, is active, and matches the practice name and state |
| Exclusions | HHS-OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities | Neither the NPI, the practice nor the responsible clinician is excluded from federal health programs |
| Debarment | SAM.gov exclusions (GSA) | No government-wide debarment (when enabled) |
| Medicare | CMS Medicare Fee-For-Service enrolment | Enrolment to bill Medicare (informational) |
| Licence | The state licensing board | A reviewer confirms the clinician's licence is active and unrestricted on the board's official site |
Automated checks run at registration and at least monthly. If a check fails later, we pause the clinic's intake page and tell the owner why.
"Verified" is not an endorsement or a rating of care. It means these checks passed when we ran them. We don't run criminal background checks on clinic staff; those are consumer reports governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and are the clinic's responsibility as an employer.
